Good to know: pot sizes, availability and delivery
  • Sizes are pot sizes, not plant heights. A 200mm pot is the width of the container. Typical plant heights per size are in the size guide.
  • Every order is availability checked. If anything cannot be supplied as listed, we contact you within 2 business days with the closest equivalent, the option to wait, or a refund. You choose.
  • Delivered Australia wide. Live plants packed for transit, no minimum order. Details on the delivery page.

The Fiskars Nyglass Trowel is a light one piece hand trowel for planting and transplanting, 315mm long and moulded in Nyglass rather than pressed from steel. Nyglass does not rust, corrode or age, so the trowel you buy now is the same tool after ten years of wet hands and damp sheds. It suits pots, garden beds and indoor planting equally.

What it does

  • Nyglass, not steel. Light in the hand for its strength, and it will not rust the way a plated blade does once the coating wears through.
  • One piece moulding. Blade and handle are a single part, which removes the joint where a cheap trowel first flexes and then snaps.
  • 315mm long, 83mm across. Wide enough to move real soil, narrow enough to open a hole for a tubestock or a punnet seedling.
  • Hang hole and a 25 year warranty. It stores on a hook in the shed, and Fiskars back it for 25 years.

How to use it

For planting, push the blade in to the depth of the pot the plant came out of and draw the soil towards you rather than lifting it out, then set the plant with the top of the rootball level with the surrounding soil and firm the backfill with the back of the trowel. For transplanting, cut a circle around the plant and lift from underneath, so the rootball comes away whole.

Rinse it after use, wipe it dry and hang it by the hole. Keep it to light and medium planting work: it is a planting trowel, not a lever for prising out rocks.

What it suits

Use in pots and planters. Repotting, topping up mix and moving seedlings into containers, where a spade cannot go and a scoop cannot cut.

Use in garden beds. Planting seedlings, tubestock, bulbs and small plants, and opening a hole for compost beside an established plant. Delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.

Not for heavy ground. Compacted clay, rocky fill and established root systems stop any hand trowel, and forcing this one sideways as a lever is the way to break it.
