The Fiskars Nyglass Potting Scoop is a one piece scoop for moving potting mix, soil and fertiliser around a potting bench. It is moulded from Nyglass, an abrasion resistant composite that shrugs off repeated impacts and contact with solvents, oil and petrol. At 323mm long with a mouth 100mm wide and 85mm high, it is sized for one hand and a bag of mix.

What it does

  • One piece construction. There is no join between the scoop and the handle, which is exactly where a two part scoop gives way.
  • Abrasion and impact resistant. Nyglass takes repeated knocks against the rim of a bag or a pot without chipping or wearing thin.
  • Unaffected by solvents, oil and petrol. It can share a shelf with fuel and garden chemicals without softening or breaking down.
  • Hang hole and a 25 year warranty. It stores on a hook rather than at the bottom of a bag of mix.

How to use it

Work straight out of the bag. Drive the scoop in along the side rather than at the top, which loads it fully in one motion instead of skimming the surface. Part fill the pot, seat the plant so the top of its rootball sits level with the finished surface, then backfill, firm gently and water in. Leave a gap between the mix and the rim so water has somewhere to sit rather than running over the edge.

Rinse it and wipe it dry after handling fertiliser. Dried fertiliser is abrasive and there is no reason to carry it into the next pot.

Use at the potting bench. Potting and repotting, filling seedling trays and topping up established containers with fresh mix.
