The Atlantis Congo Pot is a rounded ceramic pot, handmade in Vietnam and double fired, finished in the textured aged glaze that runs through the Atlantis range. It is made in one size, 40cm across and 40cm tall, with a listed capacity of 7 litres. The heavy walls are what you are paying for: at 16kg empty it stays where it is put.
Why you'll love it
-
A finish that already looks weathered. The aged glaze is textured and uneven by design, so it reads as something found rather than ordered.
-
Double fired for frost resistance. It can be left outside through winter, including in cold districts.
-
Heavy for its size. 16kg in a 40cm pot means solid walls, and no skidding on a windy balcony.
-
Hand glazed, so no two are identical. Tone and texture vary piece to piece, so a pair still looks handmade.
Sizes and what fits in them
The Congo comes in one size, measured outside rather than at the opening.
-
40cm x 40cm, 16kg empty. A round, closed form for a single compact rooted plant, or as a garden object with nothing planted in it.
-
7 litres of mix. That is the capacity we hold on record, modest for the outside dimensions, so plan on a small plant. For real root volume in the same finish, step up to a jar.
Material, weathering and drainage
Material. Handmade ceramic from Vietnam, double fired, with an aged glaze applied by hand. Colour depth and edge wear vary between pieces.
Outdoors. The double firing gives it frost resistance, so it can hold a planting through a cold winter. The finish is meant to patina. Fired ceramic still chips, so keep it on level ground clear of mower traffic.
Drainage. It has drainage holes. Keep them clear and raise the pot on feet so water escapes instead of sitting underneath. Cover the holes with fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clog. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix, never garden soil. Indoors it needs a saucer.
What to expect when it arrives
Pots ship empty and unplanted, wrapped and boxed for freight. At 40cm x 40cm and 16kg it is a one person carry, though a trolley is easier up steps.
Orders are dispatched in 2 to 5 business days, delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Choose a plant suited to pots, since aggressive roots damage any planter in time.
