The Atlantis Beehive Jar is a tapered ceramic jar, handmade in Vietnam and double fired, wearing the textured aged glaze the Atlantis range is built around. It comes in three sizes, from 52cm x 60cm up to 62cm x 84cm, holding 55 to 120 litres. The shoulders draw in toward a narrower mouth, so the jar holds its shape even when the planting is loose.
Why you'll love it
-
Three sizes that group well. The profile is the same across all three, so two or three together read as a deliberate arrangement.
-
Double fired for frost resistance. It stays outdoors and stays planted through winter, including in cold districts.
-
Aged glaze, applied by hand. Tone and texture vary between pieces, so a group looks collected over time.
-
Real capacity for the footprint. The largest size takes 120 litres, enough for an advanced shrub or a small palm.
Sizes and what fits in them
All three are measured as outside diameter by height, not at the opening.
-
52cm x 60cm, 55 litres, 35kg. Suits a dwarf citrus, a mature cordyline, a clipped ball, or a strappy leaf plant.
-
56cm x 72cm, 90 litres, 50kg. The middle size, and the usual pick for a single advanced shrub beside a door.
-
62cm x 84cm, 120 litres, 70kg. Root volume for a palm or advanced feature plant, with the height to carry it.
Material, weathering and drainage
Material. Handmade ceramic from Vietnam, double fired, finished in an aged glaze. No two pieces match exactly, and that variation is the point of the range.
Outdoors. The second firing gives it frost resistance, so a planted jar can be left out over winter. The finish is meant to weather. Ceramic still breaks, so keep the jars on level ground.
Drainage. Each jar has drainage holes. Keep them clear, raise the pot on feet, and cover them with fibreglass flyscreen. Fabric and geofabric clog, so avoid both. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix rather than garden soil.
What to expect when it arrives
Pots ship empty and unplanted, packed and strapped for freight. Even the smallest 52cm x 60cm jar is 35kg before mix goes in, so plan the lift and place it first.
Orders are dispatched in 2 to 5 business days, delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Choose plants suited to containers, since aggressive roots damage any planter in time.
