The Tumbleweed 200L Black Flat Pack Compost Bin is an entry level composter for a small garden, built from UV protected recycled plastic and designed and made in Australia. It ships flat and snaps together by hand, so there is nothing to screw or bolt, and it collapses just as easily for storage.

What it does

Two hundred litres is enough for the kitchen scraps and garden waste a family home produces week to week. The panels are aerated, which is the part that matters most in a compost bin: airflow keeps the material working aerobically while the structure still holds the moisture decomposition needs. Get that balance right and the pile heats and breaks down instead of going sour.

A front access door does the other half of the job. Finished compost sits at the bottom while fresh material goes in at the top, and the door lets you draw off the ready material without tipping the bin over.

How to use it

Snap the panels together on level ground and position the bin before filling, since a full one is far harder to move. Add kitchen scraps and garden waste evenly rather than in thick single layers, so air reaches all through the pile. Leave the airflow to regulate conditions and resist the urge to seal it up. When the material at the base has gone dark and crumbly, open the access door and harvest from there, leaving the newer material above to keep working.

What it suits

Small gardens and courtyards. Limited outdoor space is what this size was drawn for, and the flat pack build means it can be broken down again if you move.

First time composters. Beginners do best with a bin that is simple to assemble and simple to harvest, and both are handled here without tools.

Households cutting landfill waste. Organic material is the heaviest thing in most kerbside bins, and diverting it is the single change that makes the biggest difference.

It is not a bin for clearing a large block. At 200 litres a big pruning or mowing session will overwhelm it, so a bigger unit suits that job. Delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95 and a minimum order of $300 before delivery.
