Seasol 10L Seed Raising and Cutting Potting Mix is an Australian made propagating mix treated with Seasol GOLD. It is built for the least forgiving end of gardening: getting seed up evenly, and getting cuttings to hold on long enough to root. The 10L bag suits a home propagating bench rather than nursery scale sowing.

What it does

  • Better strike from seed. The mix is treated with Seasol GOLD, which is included to lift germination rates and early seedling growth.
  • Roots away quickly. The blend encourages rapid, healthy root formation in seedlings and cuttings, which is what decides whether a cutting survives.
  • A gentle six month feed. Slow release fertiliser supplies balanced nutrients and trace elements for up to six months, without burning soft young growth.
  • Moisture where the roots are. A wetting agent helps water reach the root zone, and added calcium supports strong cell walls in young growth.

How to use it

Fill trays, punnets or small pots, sow at the depth the seed packet gives, and water gently so the surface stays intact. For cuttings, insert the prepared material into the mix and keep it evenly moist from that point on.

Consistent moisture without waterlogging is the whole discipline. A mix that dries out kills a cutting before it roots, and one left saturated rots it. Keep trays warm, protected and out of wind. Ten litres fills roughly a dozen 100mm propagation pots, or several seed trays, so it goes further than the bag size suggests.

Vegetable, herb and flower seed. Punnets sown on a bench or bright windowsill germinate evenly in a fine, consistently moist medium.
