Scotts Osmocote Citrus and Fruit Premium Potting Mix is a 25L blend built around what fruiting plants actually run short of in a pot. It carries boosted iron and magnesium, Osmocote controlled release fertiliser that feeds for up to six months, a wetting agent and water crystals, and it is certified to the Australian Standard for premium potting mixes. Use it for potted citrus and for planting fruit trees into the garden.

What it does

  • Iron and magnesium for green leaves. Yellowing foliage on citrus is usually a trace element problem, and both are boosted here to hold deep green colour.
  • Six months of controlled release feeding. The Osmocote prills release nutrients gradually, which suits a fruiting plant that needs steady nutrition from flowering through to harvest.
  • Two ways of managing water. A wetting agent moves moisture evenly through the profile, and water crystals absorb it and release it back as the mix dries, which matters in a hot summer.
  • Certified premium. It meets the Australian Standard for premium potting mixes, so the structure and drainage have been tested rather than claimed.

How to use it

Twenty five litres fills roughly one 300mm pot, so a mature citrus in a 500mm tub will take several bags. Part fill the container, position the plant with the top of its root ball just below the rim, backfill and water thoroughly to settle the mix and start the fertiliser working. For garden planting, use it through the planting hole and around the root ball. Watch your watering after planting: with a wetting agent and water crystals in the mix, it holds moisture longer and needs watering less often than a plain mix.
