Scotts Lawn Builder Organic Lawn Soil is a 25 litre composted soil for topdressing an existing lawn or laying underneath new turf. It is built on composted organic materials with no animal by-products, and carries Scotts Lawn Builder slow release fertiliser, quick release iron and a wetting agent. It is for levelling a tired lawn, or giving new turf something better than builders fill.

What it does

  • Improves the soil, not just the surface. A composted organic base adds structure and organic matter to the top of the profile, which is where lawn roots do most of their work.
  • Greens up quickly. Quick release iron lifts colour fast, while the slow release fertiliser keeps feeding steadily behind it without burning the grass.
  • Wets evenly. The added wetting agent helps water soak in evenly rather than beading off dry patches, and the gradual nutrient release reduces leaching and run off.
  • Meets the standards. It complies with the relevant composted soil conditioner standards and contains no animal waste or by-products.

How to use it

To topdress an existing lawn, spread it evenly over the surface and brush it into the grass with a stiff broom or a levelling rake until the blades stand clear again. The point is to fill hollows and feed the soil, not bury the lawn, so work in thin passes rather than laying it on thick.

As an underlay, spread it over the prepared area, level the surface and lay the new turf straight onto it. Either way, water well afterwards to settle it in and activate the nutrients. Application rates are on the bag.

Lawn repair and levelling. Tired lawns that need reviving, low spots and worn patches that need filling, and repair work where you are oversowing or plugging bare areas.
