Scotts Lawn Builder Levelling Mix is a 20 litre sand based blend for filling dips and hollows in a lawn while feeding the grass at the same time. Organic matter, a wetting agent and Scotts Lawn Builder slow release fertiliser are blended through the sand, so the repair grows back in rather than sitting as a bald patch. It suits anyone levelling a worn or uneven lawn.

What it does

  • Levels and feeds in one pass. The fill and the fertiliser go down together, so grass growing into the repair closes it over quickly.
  • Sand base for drainage and airflow. It holds its level under traffic instead of slumping, and keeps the repaired area draining.
  • Organic matter through the blend. Straight sand is a poor rooting medium, and the organic fraction gives new growth something to hold and feed on.
  • Wetting agent included. Water soaks in evenly instead of running off the sand and leaving dry patches.

How to use it

Mow first, then spread the mix into the low areas and work it in with the back of a rake or a levelling lute. Fill in thin layers, with the grass blades still showing through so the plant can keep photosynthesising. Fill a deep dip over two or three applications a few weeks apart rather than in one go, because burying the grass completely kills it. Water it in to settle the mix, activate the wetting agent and start the fertiliser working. Apply during the active growing season, while the lawn can knit through the fill.

What it suits

Uneven and sunken lawns. Hollows, settled trench lines and low spots that hold water after rain are the main job, and a flat surface gives a cleaner cut.

Wear and traffic damage. Worn tracks, tyre marks and holes dug by dogs fill and regrow with one application.

Sports and play areas. Divots and scuffed patches from backyard cricket or golf practice repair the same way.
