Richgro Pine Bark Mulch is a 70 litre bag of screened and graded natural pine bark, sized for garden beds, pots and landscaped areas. Spread over the soil it suppresses weeds, slows evaporation and holds the root zone at a steadier temperature. The consistent chip size is what separates it from a rough bulk load.

What it does

  • Suppresses weeds. A continuous layer of bark blocks the light weed seedlings need, so far fewer get away in the first place.
  • Holds moisture. Covering bare soil slows evaporation, which stretches the gap between waterings through summer.
  • Steadies soil temperature. The layer insulates the surface, protecting roots from the swings that bare soil goes through on a hot afternoon.
  • Screened and graded. Natural pine bark, sorted to a consistent chip size for a neat, even finish in beds and in pots.

How to use it

Spread it evenly over the soil surface around your plants. One 70 litre bag covers up to 2.5 square metres depending on how thick you lay it, which works out at roughly 28mm deep across that full area. Go deeper for stronger weed suppression and a bag will cover proportionally less ground, so measure the bed before you order.

Keep the mulch clear of plant stems and trunks. Bark piled hard against a trunk holds moisture where you least want it. Top the layer up as it breaks down and settles, which on a bark mulch is a job for once a year rather than once a season.
