Richgro Premium Tomato and Vegetable Planting Mix is a 25 litre grow bag you plant straight into. Cut the top, put your seedlings in, and the bag becomes the garden bed, the simplest way to grow food where there is no soil to work with. Inside is a Premium Red Tick potting mix with added seaweed and up to two months of feeding.

What it does

  • Red Tick grade. The Australian Standard premium grade sets what a mix must deliver on drainage, structure and nutrient.
  • Two months of feed built in. Nutrient is already blended through the mix, so a crop planted today does not need fertiliser on day one.
  • A gentler start for seedlings. Added seaweed goes in with the mix and supports plants through transplanting and the early weeks.
  • No pot to buy. The bag is the container, so there is nothing to buy alongside it and nothing to store afterwards.

How to use it

Lay the bag flat where it will sit, cut openings in the top, and plant seeds or seedlings directly into the mix. Put it somewhere sunny, because tomatoes and most vegetables need full sun to crop properly. Water regularly and keep the mix evenly moist, as a bag this size dries out faster than open ground.

The feed in the mix lasts up to two months. At six to eight weeks, start a liquid fertiliser to carry the crop through to harvest. The mix can also be emptied out and used in pots or as a top up in a raised bed.

Balconies and courtyards. Where there is no garden bed at all, a grow bag on a sunny slab gives you a working vegetable patch that can be shifted as the light moves.
