Richgro Black Marvel Rose and Flower Food in liquid concentrate is a fast acting feed for roses and flowering plants, taken up through both the leaves and the roots. The 1 litre bottle makes up to 450 litres of made up fertiliser, so a single bottle carries a lot of feeding. This is the form to reach for when a rose needs to respond now.

What it does

  • Nitrogen for the framework. A balanced high nitrogen feed builds the strong growth that has to be in place before a plant can flower well.
  • Potassium for the blooms. Bud count, flower size and colour all lift through the flowering flush.
  • Iron in a fast form. Rapidly absorbed iron greens up pale foliage, often the first sign a rose gives that it is struggling.
  • Goes a long way. One litre makes up to 450 litres diluted, and the same bottle covers watering on and foliar spraying.

How to use it

Dilute according to the label directions. The rates are printed on the bottle and they differ between soil application and foliar spraying, so measure rather than pour by eye.

Water the made up solution over the root zone for general feeding, or spray it onto the foliage for the quickest response, since leaf uptake is faster than root uptake. Apply regularly through active growth and flowering rather than once at the start of the season, and feed after each flush has been dead headed. Spray in the cool of the morning or evening.

What it suits

Rose gardens. Bush, standard and climbing forms all take the same feed, and repeat flowering types especially, because they draw on reserves all season.

Flowering shrubs and colour beds. Anything grown for bloom answers to a potassium led feed, in a mixed border or a bed of annuals.

Pots and containers. Nutrient leaves a container with every watering, so liquid feeding matters far more there than in open ground.
