Fine Farms Blended Cow Manure is a fully composted 25 litre bag that goes straight onto the garden with no need to age it first. It works as a general purpose fertiliser and a soil conditioner at once, adding nutrients while improving structure, aeration and water holding. It is the bag for when the soil needs help as much as the plant does.

What it does

  • Composted and ready to use. It is blended and fully composted, so it can go in around growing plants rather than being stacked and turned first.
  • Improves structure and aeration. Worked through a bed it opens tight soil and gives roots somewhere to travel, which is the difference between a plant sitting still and one getting away.
  • Holds moisture. Organic matter helps soil hold water between waterings, which counts most on sandy ground and through a dry summer.
  • Feeds soil life. It supports earthworms and general soil biology, so the improvement continues after the nutrients are used up.

How to use it

Twenty five litres spread 25mm deep covers about one square metre, so a bag is a full application for a square metre of bed. Before planting, mix it through the topsoil so it sits in the root zone instead of on the surface. On established beds, spread it evenly and let the worms take it down. Water well after application either way: that is the step that moves nutrients out of the manure and into the soil where roots reach them. Keep it clear of trunks and stems, and repeat as the soil calls for it rather than applying one heavy dose.

What it suits

Use. Vegetable gardens, where it lifts fertility ahead of a crop; general beds for flowers, shrubs and new planting; and trees and fruit trees, where it conditions the soil spread under the canopy. It suits new gardens built from poor ground and beds that have been cropping for years.

Also worth knowing. Composted manure is a soil improver first and a fertiliser second. A plant showing an obvious deficiency needs a targeted feed as well, and manure is not a substitute for mulch. Bagged goods are delivered Australia wide, with a minimum order of $300 before delivery.
