The Brunnings Mega Coir Block is a compressed block of coir that expands into up to 90 litres of premium grade garden soil about twenty minutes after water is added. It fills new beds or tops up tired ones, and it holds moisture well enough to change how a bed copes with a dry run. Ninety litres arrives as one block you can carry.

What it does

  • Ninety litres from one block. A single compressed block expands to up to 90 litres of coir garden soil, so the volume you paid for stores in a fraction of the space.
  • Ready in about twenty minutes. Add water and it expands fully in roughly twenty minutes, so a bed you decide on in the morning is planted by lunchtime.
  • Superior water retention. Coir holds moisture, so beds built with it stay damp longer and cope better with dry conditions.
  • Soil or mulch. Use it as the growing medium in a new bed, worked through existing soil, or spread on the surface.

How to use it

Put the block into a wheelbarrow, a tub, or straight into the bed it is destined for, then add water and wait about twenty minutes. Add the water gradually: it is easy to wet the block further and hard to drain a barrow you have flooded. Break the expanded material apart with a fork and spread it evenly.

Plant directly into it, or turn it through existing garden soil where you are lifting a tired bed rather than building a new one. Ninety litres fills a small bed at planting depth or tops up a larger one, so measure the area first.
