Native Bee Plants

Every plant here belongs to a genus with a documented record of visits by Australian native bees, drawn from Dr Anne Dollin's Aussie Bee observations, the Bee Aware pollination guidance and the Australian Pollinator Week planting guide. It is deliberately shorter than our broad bee and butterfly range. Gums, tea trees, bottlebrushes, honey myrtles, grevilleas and banksias carry the native bees through the year; the daisies suit the short tongued species; lavender, salvia, abelia and the kitchen herbs bring in blue banded and carpenter bees. Plant in patches at least a metre across, keep something in flower every month, and skip the insecticides.
