The Grey Tapered Low Bowl Planter is a wide, shallow bowl finished in a soft grey green earth tone, made in Italy from 100% recycled material. It comes in two sizes, 600mm and 700mm across the top, and both sit low enough to plant under a window or beside a path without blocking the view. Choose it when you want the planting to spread sideways rather than stand up.
Why you'll love it
-
Recycled, and recyclable again. The body is made entirely from recycled material and can be recycled at the end of its life, which is uncommon in a pot this wide.
-
Light enough to move on your own. Recycled plastic composite weighs a fraction of concrete or fired clay, so an empty 700mm bowl is a one person lift.
-
Drainage already sorted. Holes are moulded into the base, so there is nothing to drill before you plant.
-
Indoors or out. The same bowl works on a bench inside and on a paved courtyard outside.
Sizes and what fits in them
Two sizes, both shallow. The name is the width across the top.
-
600mm. 60cm across and 15cm deep, holding roughly 35 to 40 litres of mix. Suits succulents, herbs and low foliage plants.
-
700mm. 70cm across and 20cm deep, holding roughly 55 to 60 litres. Room for groundcovers, mixed plantings and layered arrangements.
At 15cm and 20cm deep, neither size suits a plant that wants to send roots down. Think shallow rooted, spreading and low.
Material, weathering and drainage
Material. Recycled plastic composite, moulded in Italy, in a grey green earth finish. It is not concrete, and up close it does not pretend to be.
Outdoors. It is made for indoor and outdoor use. No frost or UV rating is published for the finish, so we will not claim one: in a hard frost district, or against a full western wall, a sheltered position is the safer choice.
Drainage. The moulded holes need to stay clear, particularly after heavy rain. No saucer is included, so sit it on a tray indoors or on a timber deck.
What to expect when it arrives
The bowl ships empty: no plant, no potting mix, no saucer. Set it where it will live before you fill it, because 55 to 60 litres of wet mix makes the 700mm awkward to shuffle afterwards. A damp cloth is all it needs if it arrives dusty. Pots are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.
