The Dotty is a handmade ceramic indoor planter with a raised dot texture across the body, sold in 180mm, 250mm and 310mm and finished in white, black, nude or green. Each one is made by hand in Vietnam, so the pattern carries small differences from piece to piece. It has no drainage hole, so it works as the decorative outer pot for a plant grown in a nursery liner.
Why you'll love it
-
Texture that reads at a distance. The dot pattern catches light across the curve and gives the pot depth without competing with the plant.
-
Handmade, so no two match exactly. The slight variation in surface and tone is the point rather than a fault.
-
Four colourways, three sizes. White for a neutral room, black for contrast, nude and green for warmth.
-
Built for interiors. Smooth ceramic that wipes clean and sits flat on timber, stone or carpet.
Sizes and what fits in them
Sizes are the diameter across the widest point, and volumes assume you plant straight into the pot.
-
180mm. 160mm high, about 3 litres. A compact foliage plant for a shelf or a bedside table.
-
250mm. 224mm high, about 7 to 8 litres. The everyday size for a leafy feature houseplant on a stand or a sideboard.
-
310mm. About 325mm at its widest and 290mm high, holding 14 to 16 litres. A floor pot for a statement indoor plant.
Between two sizes, take the larger one: more root room, and watering matters less.
Material, weathering and drainage
Material. Ceramic with a textured dotty finish. Wipe it with a dry or slightly damp cloth, and lift it from the base rather than the rim.
Outdoors. Indoor use only, in dry protected rooms. It is not rated for outdoor use or for frost, so a covered balcony that still catches rain is not the place for it.
Drainage. There is no drainage hole and no saucer is included. The simplest method is to drop the nursery pot straight inside, lift it out to water, drain it at the sink and put it back. If you plant directly, water sparingly and tip out anything that collects.
What to expect when it arrives
Pots ship empty and unplanted, packed for transport. Expect the handmade character to show: small differences in the dot pattern, surface finish and depth of colour are normal, so two 250mm pots will not be identical twins. Delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.
