StoneLite Fluted Cylinders

The StoneLite Fluted Cylinder is a straight-sided column planter cast from glass-reinforced concrete, made in six sizes across two diameters, with heights from 42cm to a full metre. Vertical fluting breaks up what would otherwise be a plain face, and the material gives concrete looks at about a third of the weight. Reach for it when you want height without building anything.

Sizes and what fits in them

Measurements are outside dimensions, diameter by height.

• 42 x 42cm and 56 x 56cm (60 L and 140 L, 10kg and 19kg). A compact shrub, a dwarf citrus or a clipped ball.
• 42 x 59cm and 56 x 78cm (80 L and 190 L, 12kg and 28kg). Waist high, for a standard, a bird of paradise or spilling groundcover.
• 42 x 75cm and 56 x 100cm (100 L and 245 L, 16kg and 29kg). Columns for a slim palm, a topiary pair at an entry, or screening along a boundary.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Glass-reinforced concrete, cast thin over a fibre matrix, so the wall takes a knock that would crack an ordinary cast pot.

Outdoors. Custom-spray colours are finished in Dulux Weathershield, with a 15 year guarantee against blistering, peeling and flaking. That covers the coating staying put, not the shade, and raw concrete patinas as concrete does. Almost any custom colour can be sprayed to order for an extra $60.

Drainage. The cylinder has drainage holes. Keep them clear, raise the pot on feet, cover each hole with fibreglass flyscreen rather than fabric or geofabric, which clogs, then add 50mm of 10mm gravel and fill with a premium potting mix, never garden soil. Aggressive roots damage any planter, so choose plants suited to pots.

What to expect when it arrives

Pots ship empty. Raw concrete is dispatched in 2 to 5 business days, and custom spray colours are made to order, so allow 2 to 3 weeks. Cylinders are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. A 56 x 100cm column needs a clear path to its final spot.
