The Sherlock Home Use Poly Tray Wheelbarrow is a full size barrow with a 100 litre UV stabilised polypropylene tray, and it arrives fully assembled. One hundred litres is the standard home barrow volume, enough for a bag of mix, a load of mulch or a morning of prunings. It carries a two year Sherlock warranty.

What it does

  • Built to take sun. The polypropylene tray is UV stabilised, with a double lip and an integrated shock board, so it resists sun and the flex that cracks a thinner tray.
  • Rides over rough ground. A 16 inch by 4 inch air tyre on a steel rim rolls across lawn, garden beds and gravel instead of digging into them.
  • Steel where it counts. Handles, legs and stays are powder coated steel, the part of a barrow that fails first when it has been built light.
  • Nothing to put together. It comes out of the carton fully assembled, with fitted grips on the handles.

How to use it

A barrow carries best when the load sits over the wheel rather than at the back of the tray. Fill the front half first, lift with your legs and let the wheel take the weight. On a slope, work up and down rather than across: 100 litres of wet soil will roll a barrow sideways without warning.

Hose the tray out after use and let it dry, since damp mix left in the base is what stains and degrades poly. Check the tyre pressure regularly: a soft tyre is the most common reason a barrow starts feeling hard to push. It measures 1500mm long by 710mm wide by 700mm high.

What it suits

Everyday garden work. Soil, mulch, plants and green waste move all day in a tray this size, which is why 100 litres has become the default at home.

Backyard clean-ups. Tidy-up runs suit a poly tray, because it is lighter to push empty than steel and will not rust if caught out in a shower.
