Premium Glaze Tree Planter

The Premium Glaze Tree Planter is a wide double-fired ceramic planter made in three sizes, 37 x 35cm, 53 x 48cm and 77 x 67cm. Each one is broader than it is tall, the proportion a tree or a large shrub actually wants: width for roots and a low centre of gravity. Ten hand-applied glaze colourways run from ocean blues to gunmetal.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Double-fired ceramic under a hand-applied glaze. All figures are outside dimensions, so the planting volume sits inside the wall thickness.

Outdoors. The double firing carries the frost resistance, and the glazes hold their colour through Australian summers and frosty mornings. Tone and pooling vary from piece to piece. A tree in a pot dries faster than one in the ground, so water more often through summer.

Drainage. It drains from the base. Keep the holes clear and stand the planter on pot feet so water escapes freely. Cover each hole with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, since both clog. Lay 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a quality premium potting mix, never garden soil.
