Can I get a colour that is not listed?

Yes. StoneLite, GRC and Terrazzo pots can be custom sprayed in almost any Dulux or Colorbond colour for an extra $60. Contact us before ordering.

The Old Stone Mod Planter is a high fired earthenware pot with an unglazed, sandblasted surface, sold in four sizes from 45cm across by 40cm high up to 107cm by 70cm. Choose it when you want a clean modern form without the sheen of a moulded planter. The surface is meant to weather, so it settles into a garden rather than standing out as new.

  • Unglazed, sandblasted surface. Matte and stone like, with no gloss to show scratches.
  • It improves with age. Weathering marks read as patina on this finish rather than as wear.
  • Four sizes, one form. Run the same shape at different scales down a path or either side of an entry.

Sizes and what fits in them

Four sizes, measured as outside diameter by height.

  • 45 x 40cm, 25kg. A single shrub, a clipped ball or a strappy leaved plant. One person can shift it empty.
  • 61 x 50cm, 46kg. The everyday size for a courtyard or balcony corner, with room for a small feature plant and underplanting.
  • 90 x 60cm, 94kg. Soil volume for an advanced shrub or a small tree that has to hold up over years, not seasons.
  • 107 x 70cm, 138kg. A true tree planter. Position it first, plant it second, and do not plan to move it again.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. High fired earthenware, unglazed, with a sandblasted finish. Expect variation in colour and texture between pieces.

Outdoors. Built as an outdoor planter and intended to weather. We make no frost or UV claim for it, so in hard frosting districts keep it raised, freely drained and out of standing water over winter.

Drainage. Keep the drainage holes clear and raise the pot on feet so water escapes freely. Cover each hole with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clog. Add a 50mm layer of 10mm gravel, then a quality premium potting mix, never garden soil. Choose plants suited to pots: aggressive root systems can damage any planter.
