Ki-Carma 10 to 20mm Drainage Gravel is a graded aggregate for the jobs where water has to be given somewhere to go. The 20kg bag is a practical size for a home garden or a small landscaping run, and the same gravel works behind a retaining wall, in the base of a planter box or as a hard wearing surface gravel.

What it does

  • Free draining by particle size. At 10 to 20mm the stones are too large to pack tightly, so the gaps between them stay open and water moves through instead of sitting in the profile.
  • Relieves pressure behind retaining walls. A drainage layer gives water a path to the outlet rather than letting it build up against the back of the wall.
  • Handled in 20kg bags. Manageable to carry and easy to judge quantities against on a job you are doing yourself rather than taking a bulk delivery for.
  • Doubles as a cost effective decorative gravel. The same graded stone finishes a bed or path for less than a dedicated decorative product.

How to use it

Clear the area and prepare the base first. Spread the gravel evenly to the depth the job calls for, keeping the layer consistent, because a thin patch is where water will back up. The layer only works if it drains to somewhere: an outlet, an agricultural pipe or free ground below.

Behind a retaining wall, run the gravel as a continuous column against the back face and connect it to the outlet. In planter boxes and large tubs, spread it across the base beneath the mix. Where gravel meets soil, wrap the layer in landscape fabric so soil does not wash down and choke the gaps.
