GRC Provence Urn

The GRC Provence Urn is a tall classical urn in glass reinforced concrete, in three sizes from 53 x 71cm up to 77 x 103cm. It carries its own height, which is what an urn is for: it reads as a feature before anything is planted in it, and it holds 100 to 350 litres once something is.

Why you'll love it

• Height without a plant. The largest stands 103cm tall empty, so it terminates a path or anchors a corner on its own.
• Light for the presence it has. 14kg, 24kg and 35kg empty. A cast stone urn at this scale would need machinery; this one does not.
• Eleven finishes. The standard corten style rust plus ten Dulux Weathershield custom spray colours, guaranteed 15 years against blistering, peeling and flaking. Shades beyond the ten are sprayed for an extra $60.

Sizes and what fits in them

All measurements are outside dimensions, diameter by height.

• 53 x 71cm, 100 litres, 14kg. A clipped ball, a compact standard, or a trailing planting that drapes down the shoulder of the urn.
• 65 x 86cm, 175 litres, 24kg. The middle size, and the useful one for a matched pair flanking steps or a gateway.
• 77 x 103cm, 350 litres, 35kg. A metre of urn before you start. Enough soil for a standard olive, a bay, or a small feature tree.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Glass reinforced concrete is a concrete shell reinforced with glass fibre. It gives the mass and texture of cast stone at a weight one person can manage, which is how 350 litres lands at 35kg empty.

Outdoors. The custom spray finishes are Dulux Weathershield. We publish no frost rating for the range, so treat cold inland gardens as untested.

Drainage. It is drilled to drain. Keep the holes clear, stand the urn on feet, and screen each hole with fibreglass flyscreen, not fabric or geofabric, which clogs. Lay 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix, never garden soil. A tall, light urn is top heavy once planted, so site it out of the worst wind.

What to expect when it arrives

Urns ship empty, packed to travel upright. Rust dispatches in two to five business days; custom spray colours are made to order, so allow two to three weeks. The 77 x 103cm arrives at 35kg and stands taller than a kitchen bench, so measure first. Delivered Australia wide, delivery from $29.95.
