A glazed pot foot is a small ceramic block that sits under a pot or trough and holds it clear of the surface below. Lifting a pot lets water drain away instead of pooling under the base, and it keeps tiles, concrete and paving free of the dark rings a pot sitting flat will leave. Each foot is 80mm square, in a choice of five glaze colours.

What it does

  • Lets the pot drain. A pot sitting flat on paving can seal its own drainage holes against the ground. Raised, air moves under the base, which matters most for plants that will not tolerate wet feet.
  • Protects the surface underneath. Constant moisture between a pot and the surface leaves staining that is difficult to remove. Feet break that contact.
  • Makes cleaning simple. You can sweep or hose under a raised pot without moving it.
  • Glazed ceramic finish. It wipes clean, and the glaze can be matched to the pot above it or left to contrast.

How to use it

Use three feet per pot rather than four. Three points always sit flat, so the pot does not rock on uneven paving, and the load spreads evenly between them. Set them in a triangle just inside the rim of the pot base, where the container is strongest, rather than under its centre.

Tip the pot gently and slide each foot into place instead of lifting it clear, and get a second pair of hands for anything large or already planted. Clean with a damp cloth or a rinse. They are suitable indoors and outdoors.

What it suits

Use on patios, courtyards and balconies. Hard surfaces are where pooling and staining show up fastest.

Use under troughs and larger planters. The bigger and heavier the container, the more water it traps against the ground and the harder it is to shift for cleaning.

Not a substitute for drainage holes or a saucer. A foot lifts a pot, it does not drain one. Indoors, use feet together with a saucer so water is caught rather than left on the floor. Delivered Australia wide,.
