The Cyclone Half Moon Edger cuts the line between lawn and garden bed, the single job that makes an ordinary garden look maintained. It carries a serrated half moon blade in hardened and tempered steel on a tubular steel frame, 300mm wide, 1000mm long and 100mm deep, with a T-handle and a non-slip foot tread. It arrives ready to use and carries Cyclone's lifetime guarantee.

What it does

  • Serrated hardened steel blade. Hardened and tempered steel with a serrated edge, so it saws through matted turf and runners rather than skating off them.
  • Non-slip foot tread. A flat tread across the shoulder takes your boot, so the cut is driven by body weight and reaches full depth in one press.
  • T-handle with PVC grips. The crossbar gives both hands something to pull against, which is what keeps the blade vertical and the line straight.
  • Tubular steel frame. One shaft from head to handle, with nothing bolted on to loosen.

How to use it

Set the line first with a hose or a string line, then work along it in overlapping cuts, pressing the blade straight down with your foot rather than rocking it side to side. Keep the blade vertical on the lawn side and let the bed side crumble away. Lift the cut strip out with a spade and knock the soil off the roots back into the bed. Redo the line once or twice a year and it stays crisp; leave it two years and you are cutting established runners the whole way around.

Scrape soil off the blade after use, wipe it dry, and store it under cover. A clean blade cuts and a caked one drags.

What it suits

Lawn to garden bed edges. Curved bed lines, island beds and anywhere couch or kikuyu is creeping into planting. Delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.

Paths, paving and driveways. Cutting turf back off concrete, pavers and mowing strips so the hard edge stays visible.

Not a digging tool. The blade is shallow and made for slicing turf. Trenching and planting holes are jobs for a spade, and using this for them blunts the edge.
