Brunnings Landscape Paver Sand is a fine grade, multi-purpose sand supplied in a 20kg bag, made for sweeping into the joints between bricks and pavers. Filled joints are what holds a paved surface together, and this sand is clean and bacteria free, so it can be used inside the house as readily as out on a driveway.

What it does

  • Fine grade, so it fills the joint. The grade is fine enough to work down into narrow gaps between bricks and blocks rather than bridging across the top of them.
  • Locks pavers in place. Sand packed into the joints stops individual pavers shifting underfoot, which is what sends a path uneven over time.
  • Keeps water moving. Filled joints still drain, so surface water passes down through the paving instead of pooling on it.
  • Bacteria free and clean. Rated for both interior and exterior work, which covers indoor tiling beds as well as garden paths.

How to use it

Work on a dry surface. Tip the sand out and spread it evenly across the paving, then sweep it back and forward with a stiff broom so it drops into every joint rather than skating over the top. Compact the surface, sweep the excess off, and check the joints again: sand settles once it is compacted, and a second pass is normal rather than a sign you did it wrong.

Joints lose sand slowly to rain, wind and sweeping, so top them up whenever the level drops below the paver face. A 20kg bag goes much further on tight joints than on wide ones, so measure your joint width and the area before you decide how many bags a job needs.

What it suits

Use. Brick and block paving, patios, paths and driveways, where the sand fills the joints and holds the surface together.
