Seasol Super Compost is a ready to use soil conditioner in a 25 litre bag, built on a mushroom compost base and treated with Seasol Liquid Compost, gypsum and a wetting agent. It goes straight onto the garden with no mixing, and it is aimed at soil that has gone hard, tired or difficult to wet.

What it does

  • Mushroom compost base. The bulk of the bag is a nutrient rich by-product of mushroom farming, which is where the organic matter comes from.
  • Gypsum for tight ground. Compacted soil chokes off air and water at the root zone, and gypsum helps both move through it again.
  • Wetting agent included. Soil that has dried out hard sheds water off the surface, and the wetting agent gets moisture soaking in instead.
  • Certified to the premium standard. It is red tick certified to Australian premium standards, so the ingredients and the blend are held to a known benchmark.

How to use it

Spread it evenly over the surface and lightly work it in if the ground allows. Water thoroughly afterwards, which settles it and starts the wetting agent working. It can be used at any time of year, and it can be left on the surface as a mulch instead of being dug in.

A 25 litre bag covers roughly half a square metre at 50mm deep, so plan it as a treatment for a planting area rather than a whole garden. Work out the area and the depth first, then buy to that number.

What it suits

Bed preparation. Turning it through the topsoil before planting is the highest value moment, because it is the only time the root zone is reachable without disturbance.

Heavy and compacted clay. Gypsum is the reason to choose this over a plain compost where the ground sets hard and puddles after rain.

Established trees and shrubs. Where digging would tear through surface roots, spread it on top and let watering carry it down.
