Seasol Super Soil Wetter and Conditioner is a 2.5 litre liquid concentrate that deals with the most wasteful problem in an Australian garden: water running off instead of soaking down to the roots. It is a wetting agent boosted with Seasol liquid seaweed and liquid compost, so it conditions the soil as well as wetting it.

What it does

  • Water gets past the surface. Hard to wet soils repel moisture and send it off the top or down the sides of the root ball. This breaks that resistance.
  • Moisture held where roots are. Increased water holding capacity in the root zone means less of every watering is lost.
  • Active for many months. It is a long lasting treatment rather than a one watering effect, so a single application keeps working through a season.
  • Seaweed and liquid compost included. Beyond wettability it supports soil structure, beneficial microbes and nutrient uptake.

How to use it

Dilute at the rate printed on the label and apply evenly across the soil surface. Rates differ by situation, so take them from the label rather than estimating. Follow with normal watering: the product has to be carried down into the soil, and a treatment left sitting on a dry surface achieves nothing.

On badly water repellent ground, cover the area methodically rather than just the plants, because the dry patches between them are where run off starts. Reapply as required before a hot dry stretch.

What it suits

Sandy and hydrophobic beds. Soil baked through summer often stops accepting water altogether, and this is the standard remedy before a garden is written off as too dry.

Lawns on compacted ground. Where irrigation and rain run to the low corner, treating the surface is what gets moisture into the root zone instead.

Containers and planters. Potting mix that has dried out hard is difficult to rewet, and it shrinks from the pot wall and lets water escape down the gap.
