Searles Premium Advanced is a 65 litre bag with a long feeding period: Searles Robust fertiliser carries plants for up to 12 months. It is a premium grade mix that meets and exceeds Australian Standard AS3743, built for people potting up in quantity or setting up containers they would rather not touch again for a year.

What it does

  • Twelve months of feeding. Searles Robust supplies nutrients for up to a year, and added Searles Flourish soluble plant food gives a fast start while the slower fertiliser gets going.
  • Serious water holding. Water crystals absorb up to 400 times their weight in water and release it back as plants need it, and there is 50 per cent more wetting agent than a standard premium mix, which spreads moisture through the whole root zone rather than the top third.
  • Built on real ingredients. A blend of coir peat, composted pine peat, organic compost, composted sawdust and washed sand, with zeolite, rock minerals, activated carbon and biostimulants worked through it.
  • Potash for flower and fruit. Added potash supports flower colour, fruit quality and disease resistance in potted plants.

How to use it

Fill pots and planters, plant directly into the mix, and water thoroughly after planting so the wetting agent and crystals are properly charged. Sixty five litres fills about two 300mm pots with enough left for a couple of 200mm pots alongside them, which makes it economical if you are potting a group at once.

Water less often than you would with a basic mix. The crystals hold moisture well past the point where the surface looks dry, so test with a finger rather than watering to habit.

What it suits

Pots you leave alone. Long term container planting outdoors, where a 12 month feed means one less job, and indoor plants that stay in the same pot for a year or more.

Ornamentals and edibles. Flowers and ornamentals, and herbs and vegetables in containers, where the potash and the fast acting soluble food both pay off. Delivered Australia wide, with a minimum order of $300 before delivery.

Not for. Plants that demand sharp drainage and lean conditions. Cacti, succulents and orchids are all better in a coarse, low nutrient medium.
