Scotts Osmocote 50L Premium Potting Mix is a container growing medium built to carry a plant through its first half year in a pot without a separate feeding routine. It is Red Tick certified to the Australian Standard for premium potting mixes, and the controlled release Osmocote fertiliser blended through it feeds for up to six months. It suits anyone potting or repotting ornamentals, shrubs and small trees.

What it does

  • Six months of controlled release feeding. Nutrition is released while the plant is actively growing, rather than flushing away with the first heavy watering.
  • Red Tick certification. The mix is certified to meet the Australian Standard for premium potting mixes, which separates a genuine premium product from a bagged blend that looks identical on the shelf.
  • A wetting agent through the blend. Water soaks evenly through the profile instead of running down the inside of the pot and straight out the drainage holes.
  • Trace elements and growth stimulants. These are aimed at root development, and a higher level of readily available soluble nitrogen supports the top growth that follows.

How to use it

Fifty litres fills roughly two 300mm pots, or one 400mm pot with a little to spare. Part fill the container, set the plant at the depth it sat at in its nursery pot, then backfill and firm lightly, leaving room below the rim.

Water thoroughly straight after potting so the wetting agent draws moisture right through the profile. Feeding runs for up to six months, so it is worth noting the date: heavy feeders, and anything still in the same container after that window, will need additional fertiliser.

Balcony pots to large planters. Container plants indoors and outdoors, from balcony pots to large planters. It is a general purpose premium mix, so it handles a wide range of ornamentals.
