Osmocote Roses, Gardenias, Azaleas and Camellias is a controlled release granular fertiliser built for acid-loving shrubs and the roses that usually grow alongside them. One application feeds for up to six months, so plants get a steady supply instead of the spike and fade of a soluble feed. The 500g pack suits a home garden with a handful of established shrubs in beds or pots.

What it does

  • Feeds for up to six months. Nutrients release gradually from coated granules, which also cuts the leaching and waste of applying more fertiliser than a plant can take up at once.
  • Extra iron and magnesium. These are the two elements gardenias, azaleas and camellias tend to run short of, and they hold foliage a deep, even green rather than pale between the veins.
  • Professional wetting agent. Included so water moves into the soil rather than running off the surface, which matters most in older potting mix.
  • Balanced trace elements. The minor minerals travel in the same granule as the majors, so there is no second product to chase.

How to use it

Apply at the rate printed on the pack, which changes with plant and pot size. Sprinkle the granules evenly over the soil around the base, keeping them off the trunk and stems, then water in well so the coating begins releasing. At planting time, mix them through the backfill soil instead of top dressing.

Reapply every six months. For most Australian gardens that falls in early spring and early autumn, which lines the feed up with the two main flushes of growth.
