Scotts Osmocote for Pots, Planters and Indoors is a granular controlled release fertiliser in a 500g pack, made for plants growing in containers. One application feeds for up to 6 months, so it replaces the fortnightly liquid feed that most people start and few people keep up. Phosphorus is held below 2%, which makes it suitable for most Australian natives.

What it does

  • Feeds for up to 6 months. Coated granules release nutrients steadily rather than delivering them in one hit, which is what a container plant needs.
  • Built for flowering. High potassium with a steady, low nitrogen supply encourages flowers rather than soft leafy growth.
  • Low phosphorus, under 2%. That is what makes it suitable for most Australian natives, which resent a heavy phosphorus load.
  • Includes a wetting agent. Potting mix that has dried hard takes water again, so the dissolved feed actually reaches the roots.

How to use it

For a new planting, mix the granules through the potting mix as you fill the pot, so the feed sits in the root zone from day one. For an established plant, sprinkle evenly over the surface of the mix, keep the granules off the stem, and water in thoroughly. Reapply every six months for continuous feeding. The pack carries the application rate for the pot size you are feeding, so follow it rather than guessing: with a controlled release granule, more is not better. Keep watering normally afterwards.
