Scotts Osmocote 25L Rose, Gardenia and Azalea Premium Potting Mix is an acidic blend for plants that only look their best below pH 6. It carries Scotts Osmocote controlled release fertiliser for up to six months plus boosted iron and magnesium, and meets the Australian Standard for premium potting mixes. Twenty five litres, ready to use from the bag.

What it does

  • Acid side of neutral. The blend is formulated for plants that prefer pH 6 or less: roses, gardenias, camellias, azaleas, rhododendrons, magnolias and pieris.
  • Six months of controlled release feeding. Scotts Osmocote is already through the mix, so a newly potted plant is fed from day one.
  • Iron and magnesium boosted. The two elements acid loving plants run short of first, held up here to keep foliage dark green and reduce yellowing.
  • Moisture held steady. A wetting agent and water storage crystals even out the wet and dry cycle between waterings.

How to use it

Use it straight from the bag, in a pot or a prepared garden bed, with nothing added. Water thoroughly immediately after planting: that activates the wetting agent and starts the controlled release fertiliser.

Twenty five litres fills roughly one 300mm pot, or three 200mm pots, so a mature potted gardenia or a standard rose wants a bag to itself. Feeding runs for up to six months, after which apply a suitable fertiliser if the plant stays in the same container.

What it suits

Potted roses and standards. A rose in a container depends entirely on what is in that container, so the correct pH range matters more than it does in open ground.

Gardenias and camellias. Both sulk and yellow off when conditions drift alkaline, and the added iron and magnesium here work directly against that.

Acid lovers going into beds. Azaleas, rhododendrons and magnolias can be planted into this mix rather than raw soil, giving the roots an easier first season.
