This is a free-draining premium mix formulated for Australian natives and other phosphorus-sensitive plants, sold in a 25 litre bag. The low phosphorus formula, boosted iron and calcium, and controlled release Osmocote fertiliser give banksias, grevilleas and kangaroo paws the conditions they actually want. It is for anyone potting natives, or planting them into a bed.

What it does

  • Low phosphorus, by design. Many natives evolved on lean soils and react badly to standard fertiliser levels. This mix keeps phosphorus low so the risk of toxicity comes down.
  • Iron and calcium boosted. Both are lifted to support dark green foliage and to help avoid the nutrient imbalance that shows up as yellowing between the veins.
  • Feeds for up to six months. Scotts Osmocote controlled release fertiliser is already blended through, so there is nothing to add at planting.
  • Wets evenly and drains freely. The added wetting agent helps water penetrate the whole mix instead of running down the side of the pot, and the structure drains rather than holding water at the roots.

How to use it

Use it straight from the bag, no mixing required. A 25 litre bag fills roughly two 300mm pots, or most of a 400mm pot once you allow for the rootball going in, so measure your pots before deciding how many bags to order. In garden beds, use it as backfill around the rootball rather than trying to replace the whole bed.

Water thoroughly straight after planting to activate the wetting agent and settle the mix around the roots. The mix meets the Australian Standard for premium potting mixes. Reapply fertiliser after six months if the plant needs it.
