Scotts Osmocote Indoor Plants Premium Potting Mix is a 10 litre bag of clean, compost free growing medium built for houseplants rather than gardens. It is blended from coir, sphagnum peat and perlite, and carries Osmocote controlled release fertiliser that feeds for up to six months. It suits anyone potting up or refreshing indoor plants who would rather not bring fungus gnats into the house.

What it does

  • Compost free and pine bark free. Both ingredients are known to attract fungus gnats, and neither is in this blend.
  • Six months of controlled release feeding. Osmocote prills give up nutrient slowly, so most plants need nothing extra through the first half year.
  • Air and water in balance. Perlite opens the structure so roots can breathe, while coir and sphagnum peat hold the moisture.
  • Sized for indoor jobs. Ten litres covers a single repot or a benchful of small pots, and the bag stores easily in a cupboard.

How to use it

Fill the pot, plant straight into the mix and water thoroughly. Ten litres fills roughly one 250mm pot, or five to six 150mm pots, so work from the pot sizes in front of you. Let the excess drain freely rather than leaving the pot standing in a full saucer, because roots sitting in trapped water are the usual reason an indoor plant declines. The fertiliser is already blended through, so hold off on any extra feeding until the six months are up.

What it suits

Potting up new houseplants. Anything moving out of a nursery pot and into a decorative one goes straight in with nothing added.

Refreshing tired media. Old mix slumps and stops draining as it ages, and fresh material is the quickest fix for a plant that has stalled.
