Richgro Black Marvel is a 25 litre premium grade potting mix aimed squarely at the plants you want something back from: flowers, vegetables, herbs and potted fruit. It is high in potash and carries added iron, so it pushes bloom and fruit quality rather than just leafy growth. The bag complies with AS3743, the Australian Standard for potting mixes, at premium grade.

What it does

  • High potash. Potash is the nutrient behind flower quality and fruit development, which is why this mix reads differently to a general foliage blend on the same shelf.
  • Added iron. Supports root development and keeps foliage deep green, since iron shortage in containers shows first as pale new leaves.
  • Six months of controlled release feeding. Nutrients are already blended through the bag and release over time, so a newly potted plant is fed from day one.
  • Built-in soil wetter. Effective for up to six months, it keeps water soaking evenly into the mix rather than running off a dry surface and straight out the drainage holes.

How to use it

Fill the container, plant directly into the mix, and water thoroughly straight after planting. That first deep watering matters more than people expect: it activates the soil wetter and starts the controlled release nutrients working, so half wetting the pot short changes both.

Twenty five litres fills roughly one 300mm pot, or about three 200mm pots, so count your containers before ordering. Top up the level as the mix settles over the first few weeks, and expect to repot or refresh once the six month feeding window has passed.

Flowers, herbs and potted fruit. Flowering plants in pots, vegetables and herbs, and citrus or other fruit trees grown in containers, where the potash and iron do the most visible work.
