Richgro Ezi-Wet Soil Soaker is a wetting agent for soil and potting mix that has turned water repellent, where water beads on the surface, runs off and the ground underneath stays dry. One 10kg bag treats up to 300 square metres of lawn, bed or container. It carries added organic fertiliser and it is aquatic and earthworm safe.

What it does

  • Breaks water repellency. The fast hydrating formula lets water soak in instead of running off, so dry patches close up and the profile wets evenly.
  • Gets water to the roots. Less runoff means more of each watering reaches the root zone, and roots follow the moisture down.
  • Stretches the watering interval. Soil that holds moisture properly needs watering less often, which counts through a dry summer.
  • Lifts fertiliser efficiency. Nutrient travels with water, so ground that takes water evenly makes better use of what you feed it.

How to use it

Spread the granules evenly across the soil or lawn surface as directed on the bag, then water in well. The product does nothing until it has been watered through. On a badly hydrophobic lawn, treat the whole area rather than the visible dry patches: the repellent layer extends further than the brown does.

The 10kg bag covers up to 300 square metres, which is a decent suburban lawn or a large mixed garden. Reapply as needed through dry periods, ahead of summer rather than mid heatwave. In pots, treat the mix before it dries out completely, since fully dried potting mix is far harder to rewet.

What it suits

Lawns with dry patches. Turf over sandy or hydrophobic soil is the classic case, where sprinklers run and the same brown areas keep coming back.

Pots and planters. Aged potting mix shrinks from the sides and sheds water down the gap, so treatment makes it wet through its full volume again.
