Pinegro Coco Peat Ready To Use is a 30 litre bag of pre-hydrated coir, enriched with calcium and magnesium, that goes straight from the bag into a pot or a bed. It is light to carry and holds water well, useful either as a growing medium in its own right or as a conditioner for soil that dries out too fast.

What it does

  • Hydrated on arrival. There is no compressed brick to soak: the coir is already expanded and wet, so an opened bag is ready to plant into.
  • Holds water and nutrients. Coir has high water retention, keeping moisture and dissolved nutrient within reach of the roots for longer between waterings.
  • Calcium and magnesium added. Both support stronger root development and balanced growth.
  • Light to handle. A 30 litre bag weighs a fraction of the same volume of garden soil, which is what makes it workable in raised planters and on balconies.

How to use it

Straight from the bag it will plant vegetables, herbs and most container plants with no further preparation. Thirty litres fills a 300mm pot with some left over, or dresses about 1.2 square metres of bed at 25mm deep before you fork it in. As a soil conditioner, blend it through the top 150mm of sandy or hard ground to lift moisture and nutrient retention. Water to the plant's needs, not a schedule: coir looks dry on top long before it is dry underneath, so push a finger in first.

What it suits

Vegetables and herbs. Fast growing edible crops respond to a medium that stays evenly moist, which coir manages better than most soils in a container.

Pots, planters and vertical gardens. Weight matters the moment a planter leaves the ground, and this is light enough for wall systems where soil would be too heavy.

Sandy and difficult beds. Ground that drains before a plant can drink holds water far better once coir is worked through it. It is delivered Australia wide, with a minimum order of $300 before delivery.

Coco peat is a growing medium, not a fertiliser. Beyond the added calcium and magnesium it carries no plant food, so anything grown in it needs feeding separately.
