Sudden Impact for Roses is Neutrog's rose specific fertiliser, supplied here in the 10kg bag. It is a chemically boosted formula aimed at flowering performance and plant vigour, and it is endorsed by the National Rose Societies. The 10kg size is the one to buy when you are feeding a full rose bed rather than a couple of bushes.

What it does

  • Built around the bloom. The formula is developed to increase flowering and hold colour longer, which is the reason most gardeners feed roses at all.
  • Backs the plant, not just the flower. It supports vigour and general plant health, so growth comes through strong enough to carry the flowers.
  • Endorsed by the rose societies. The National Rose Societies endorse it, which is a useful signal in a category full of general purpose feeds.
  • Suits every rose type. Bush, climbing, standard and miniature roses all take the same product, so one bag covers a mixed collection.

How to use it

Apply evenly around the drip line of each plant, the circle of soil under the outer edge of the canopy, rather than tipping it against the stem where the feeder roots are not. Water in well immediately afterwards so the nutrients reach the root zone. Feed during active growth and through flowering, then reapply as needed to keep the flush coming. Use the rate printed on the bag, which is set by plant size and situation. Store a part used 10kg bag closed and dry, and keep the granules off foliage as you spread.

What it suits

Dedicated rose beds. A dozen or more bushes on a regular feeding schedule get through fertiliser quickly, and buying in bulk brings the cost per feed down.

Formal and cottage plantings. Standards flanking a path or a loose cottage border both depend on repeat flowering, which is exactly what a rose specific feed is built to support.

Container roses. Potted roses exhaust their mix faster than plants in the ground, so they need feeding to schedule rather than when you remember.

It is formulated for roses, so other shrubs are better matched to their own fertiliser. Delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.
