Neutrog Kahoona is a granular fertiliser built for acid loving plants, supplied in a 10kg bag. It is a chemically boosted formula aimed at two things gardeners judge these plants by: dense green foliage and a reliable flowering season. If you grow camellias, gardenias, azaleas or rhododendrons in any number, this is the bag size that lasts.

What it does

  • Matched to acid loving shrubs. The formula is developed for camellias, gardenias, azaleas and rhododendrons rather than sold as a general garden feed.
  • Aimed at flower development. It is made to encourage stronger and more consistent flowering through the bud and bloom period.
  • Holds leaf colour. Foliage health is the other half of the job, and pale or tired leaves on these shrubs are usually the first sign feeding has been missed.
  • Chemically boosted granules. A granular product spreads evenly and stays where you put it, which matters under shrubs where the feeding roots sit shallow.

How to use it

Spread the granules evenly around the base of the plant, working out across the root zone rather than banking them against the trunk. Water in well straight after application so the nutrients move into the soil instead of sitting on the surface. Feed during active growth and through the flowering period, then reapply as required to keep performance up across the season. Follow the rate printed on the bag, which is set by plant size and by whether the plant is in the ground or in a pot. A 10kg bag is bulk buying, so keep it closed and dry between applications.

Established shrub borders. A row of camellias or a bank of azaleas takes a real quantity of fertiliser each year, and buying at 10kg costs less per feed than small packs.
