It is the heavier of the Maze tumblers, built on an open front metal frame with a gear and crank turning system and backed by a five year warranty. It suits a busy garden that generates more organic waste than a standard bin can keep up with.

What it does

  • Capacity you can reconfigure. Run all 245 litres as a single chamber for bulk garden waste, or fit the removable divider so one half matures while the other fills.
  • Controlled rotation. The gear and crank handle turns a loaded barrel without wrestling it, and a ratchet lock holds position rather than letting it roll back.
  • Reinforced for the long run. An extra strong UV protected barrel with multiple air vents sits in a zinc powder coated open front metal frame, with two large sliding doors for loading and emptying.

How to use it

Decide first whether you want one chamber or two. Leave the divider out for volume, or fit it and treat the sides as alternating batches, filling one while the other breaks down. Add kitchen and garden waste through the sliding doors and turn the barrel regularly, which aerates the contents and drives the aerobic decomposition that finishes compost quickly. Position a bucket or garden cart under the doors before you empty it, rather than digging it out onto the lawn. Site the frame on firm level ground with clear space at the front for the doors and the crank.
