Garden Basics Seaweed Liquid Concentrate is a 2 litre bottle of dilutable plant tonic used to support root development, condition soil and settle plants through transplanting. It is not a fertiliser: it works on roots and soil rather than supplying a feed. It is safe to use on all plants, from vegetables and flowers through to trees, shrubs and indoor plants.

What it does

  • Encourages root development. Root growth is the work a plant does first, and this tonic is aimed squarely at that part of the plant.
  • Reduces transplant shock. Applied at planting or repotting, it helps plants recover faster and get moving sooner in a new position.
  • Revitalises soil. Regular use improves soil condition and supports the beneficial activity that keeps a bed in good order.
  • Improves stress tolerance. It raises resistance to heat, cold, drought and environmental stress, which is worth having through an Australian summer.

How to use it

Dilute the concentrate according to the label directions and apply through a watering can or a hose-on applicator, over the soil or across the foliage. The label directions must be followed: the rates are printed on the bottle and they are the only rates to work to. Apply at planting time and whenever you repot, then through the year as part of routine care. Two litres of concentrate goes a long way once diluted, so measure rather than pour by eye. Keep the bottle sealed and out of direct sun between uses.

What it suits

New plantings and repotting. The first month decides whether a plant establishes or sulks, and that is where a root tonic makes the clearest difference.

Vegetables and herbs. Short season crops turn a bed over constantly and the soil never gets a rest, so regular application between plantings keeps it in condition. It is delivered Australia wide, with a minimum order of $300 before delivery.

Indoor and potted plants. Container roots are confined and the mix ages around them, which makes a tonic through the watering can easy routine maintenance.

Where it stops. A tonic is not a fertiliser and does not replace one. A pale, hungry plant needs feeding, and this works alongside that rather than instead of it.
