Garden Basics Premium Potting Mix is a 25 litre bag of ready to use container mix for pots, planters and hanging baskets, indoors and out. Controlled release fertiliser feeds a newly potted plant for up to three months, and the mix meets Australian Standard AS3743 for premium grade.

What it does

  • Premium grade to AS3743. The standard covers nutrition, drainage and structure, so the bag behaves the same way from one purchase to the next.
  • Three months of feeding built in. The controlled release fertiliser covers the stretch a fresh plant spends putting out roots.
  • Open and well drained. Built from quality composted materials with an open structure, so water moves through instead of sitting around the root ball.
  • Light enough to carry. A full bag weighs 12kg, which matters on the stairs to a balcony or filling a basket overhead.

How to use it

One 25L bag fills a single 300mm pot with a little to spare, or roughly four 200mm pots. A 400mm planter or a long trough takes more than one bag, so add up your litres before ordering. Fill loosely rather than compacting the mix, set the plant with the top of the root ball level with the surface, then water in thoroughly. After about three months the controlled release feed is spent and a liquid or granular fertiliser takes over. Top up as the mix settles, refresh it entirely at the next repot, and reseal the bag between uses.

Indoor pots. Houseplants sit in the same medium for years, so structure matters most. An open blend keeps air around the roots long after a cheap mix has slumped.

Balconies and courtyards. Container gardens drain constantly and dry out fast, and feed already in the bag gives you a margin when watering is not perfectly regular. Bags are delivered Australia wide, with a minimum order of $300 before delivery.
