The Thai Limestone Torquelstone Pot is a hand made urn from Thailand, finished in a softly aged limestone glaze with the turned, twisting profile the name refers to. It is made in one size, 70cm across and 60cm high, and holds 130 litres of mix.

The Torquelstone is made in one size only, quoted as outside dimensions.

  • 70cm across. Wide enough for a rounded shrub, a clipped ball or a mounding grass to sit in proportion to the pot.
  • 60cm high. A useful middle height that lifts the planting without towering, so it works either side of a door or at the corner of a terrace.
  • 130 litres of mix. Buy to that figure, less the gravel layer, and work a slow release feed through it before planting.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Limestone glazed ceramic, hand made and hand finished. Variation in tone around the turned body and a rim that is not machine true come with the process.

Outdoors. Sold as an outdoor pot. We publish no frost rating for the Thai limestone range, so treat it as you would any glazed ceramic and never let water sit in the base through winter.

Drainage. Keep the drainage holes clear and stand the pot on feet so water escapes. Cover them with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clog. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix rather than garden soil, and choose plants suited to containers: aggressive roots damage any planter.
