The Thai Limestone Stewpot is a broad, low bellied vessel hand made in Thailand and finished in a softly aged limestone glaze. It measures 70cm across and 50cm high in the one size available, and holds 120 litres of mix, which makes it the most usable everyday size in the range.

The Stewpot is made in a single size, quoted as outside dimensions.

  • 70cm across. A wide mouth takes a rounded shrub, a clipped ball or a mounding grass without the plant looking pinched.
  • 50cm high. Deep enough for a citrus, a gardenia or a dwarf olive to hold on for years rather than seasons.
  • 120 litres of mix. Buy to that figure, less the gravel base layer, and add a slow release feed while the pot is empty.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Limestone glazed ceramic, hand made and hand finished. Tonal variation and an untrue rim are characteristics of the process, not faults.

Outdoors. Sold as an outdoor pot. We publish no frost rating for the Thai limestone range, so in cold districts treat it as you would any glazed ceramic and keep water from sitting in the base over winter.

Drainage. Keep the drainage holes clear and stand the pot on feet so water escapes. Cover them with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clog. Lay 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix rather than garden soil, and choose plants suited to containers: aggressive roots damage any planter.
