The Thai Limestone Pear Pot is a hand made vessel from Thailand with the swelling, tapered profile its name suggests, finished in a softly aged limestone glaze. It is 60cm across and 78cm high in the single size available, and holds 175 litres of mix.

The Pear is made in one size only, quoted as outside dimensions.

  • 60cm wide, 78cm high. Suits an upright feature such as a slim conifer, a standard bay or a strappy leaf clump that will not overbalance the narrow mouth.
  • 175 litres of mix. Buy to that figure, less the gravel layer, and blend in a slow release feed while the pot is still empty.
  • 65kg before planting. A two person lift empty, and immovable once filled, so decide on the position first.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Limestone glazed ceramic, hand made and hand finished. Tonal shifts down the body and a rim that is not machine true are part of the process rather than faults.

Outdoors. Sold as an outdoor pot. We publish no frost rating for the Thai limestone range, so treat it as you would any glazed ceramic and keep water from sitting in the base through winter.

Drainage. Keep the drainage holes clear and stand the pot on feet so water escapes. Cover them with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clog. Lay 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix rather than garden soil, and choose plants suited to containers: aggressive roots damage any planter.
