Yes. StoneLite, GRC and Terrazzo pots can be custom sprayed in almost any Dulux or Colorbond colour for an extra $60. Contact us before ordering.

The Terracotta Italian Cylinder Bowl is a natural terracotta planter with straight sides and a low, wide profile in the classic Mediterranean style. It comes in three sizes, from 210mm across and 9cm deep up to 310mm across and 15cm deep. A shallow bowl is the right shape for anything with fibrous, surface feeding roots, which covers most of what people actually grow in a pot on a table.

Why you'll love it

  • Shallow by design, not by compromise. The wide, low form suits succulents, herbs, annual colour and mixed plantings, where a deep pot only holds cold wet mix under the roots.
  • Unglazed terracotta breathes. Fired clay lets air and moisture move through the wall, so the mix dries between waterings and plants that hate wet feet do better in it.
  • It improves with age. Outdoors the clay weathers and picks up a soft mineral bloom over time, which is the look people pay extra to imitate.

Sizes and what fits in them

Outside diameter and overall height, with approximate soil volumes.

  • 210mm across, 9cm high, about 2 to 3 litres. A single succulent, a small herb, or seedlings for the table.
  • 260mm across, 10cm high, about 4 to 5 litres. A mixed succulent arrangement, or three or four herbs together.
  • 310mm across, 15cm high, about 7 to 9 litres. Annual colour, a fuller mixed planting, or trailing groundcover for a low wall.

The extra depth in the 310mm size makes it the one to choose if the bowl sits in full sun through summer.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Natural terracotta, cylinder bowl shape, in the classic unglazed finish. Brush it clean or rinse it with water when it needs it.

Outdoors. Made for gardens, courtyards and alfresco areas, and natural weathering is expected rather than a defect. Terracotta is porous, so a bowl in full sun needs water more often than a glazed or plastic pot of the same size.

Drainage. Drainage holes are included. Indoors, use a saucer to catch what runs through and to stop moisture marking timber. Matching saucers are sold separately.

Bowls are dispatched empty and boxed, packed to protect the rim, which is the vulnerable part of any fired clay pot. Plants are not included. Even the 310mm size is light enough to reposition with one hand while empty. Delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.
