StoneLite Trough

The StoneLite Trough is a long rectangular planter cast from glass-reinforced concrete, made in twenty sizes from 60cm to 2m long and eleven finishes. It is the shape for a line rather than a point: a screen along a boundary, a divider on a terrace, a green edge to a driveway.

Why you'll love it

• Twenty sizes, so the run actually fits. Lengths from 60cm to 200cm and heights from 28cm to 102cm, enough to match a wall or balustrade rather than work around it.
• A third of the weight of solid concrete. The 200 x 50 x 60cm trough is 90kg empty. In cast concrete it would be a crane job.
• Reinforced along its length. Glass fibre through the wall gives a long, thin vessel the rigidity it needs.
• Eleven finishes. Raw Concrete as standard, plus ten sprayed Dulux Weathershield colours, and custom colours for an extra $60.

Sizes and what fits in them

Outside dimensions, length by width by height, grouped here by length.

• 60cm to 85cm long, 47L to 230L. Balcony and courtyard scale: herbs, a low hedge of three or four plants, or a single upright in the 60 x 25 x 70cm.
• 100cm to 120cm long, 120L to 600L. The screening workhorses. The 120 x 60 x 60cm carries enough soil for a run of shrubs that has to stay dense.
• 150cm to 200cm long, 288L to 630L. Full length screens and dividers, 48kg to 90kg empty. The 150 x 60 x 70cm holds 630L, the most in the range.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Glass-reinforced concrete: a genuine concrete skin on a glass fibre matrix, hence the weight saving.

Outdoors. The sprayed colours carry a 15 year guarantee against blistering, peeling and flaking. We hold no frost rating for the range, so in hard frosting districts keep it draining freely rather than assume it copes with ice inside.

Drainage. Keep the drainage holes clear and raise the trough on feet so water can escape. Cover each hole with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, because both clog. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel, then premium potting mix, never garden soil.

What to expect when it arrives

Troughs ship empty and unplanted, and a 120 x 60 x 60cm takes 432L of mix. Raw Concrete is dispatched in 2 to 5 business days; sprayed colours are made to order, so allow 2 to 3 weeks. Delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.
