StoneLite Ornate Urn

The StoneLite Ornate Urn is a decorative statement piece cast from glass-reinforced concrete, made in one size at 57cm across and 54cm tall. It holds 40 litres and weighs 20kg empty, a fraction of what the same urn would weigh cast in solid concrete. Buy it when the pot itself is the feature and the planting is there to frame it.

The urn is made in one size only, measured as diameter by height.

• 57 x 54cm, 40 L, 20kg. Forty litres suits a clipped ball, a compact shrub, trailing groundcover spilling over the rim, or a seasonal colour planting swapped out twice a year. It is heavier for its volume than the plain shapes in the StoneLite range, so it sits steady on an exposed step or terrace.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Glass-reinforced concrete, cast thin over a fibre matrix, which allows fine detail at a workable weight.

Outdoors. Every finish is a Dulux Weathershield custom spray, carrying a 15 year guarantee against blistering, peeling and flaking. Read that as a guarantee about the coating staying on the urn rather than about the shade itself. Almost any custom colour can be sprayed to order for an extra $60.

Drainage. The urn has drainage holes. Keep them clear, raise it on feet, cover each hole with fibreglass flyscreen rather than fabric or geofabric, which clogs, then add 50mm of 10mm gravel and fill with a premium potting mix rather than garden soil.
