StoneLite Giant Egg

The StoneLite Giant Egg is a large rounded planter cast from glass-reinforced concrete, made in three sizes from 75cm across up to 112cm. • 75 x 63cm, 225 L, 24kg. A mature agave, a cycad, or a well grown shrub at the corner of a paved area.
• 90 x 75cm, 385 L, 35kg. A slim palm, a clipped standard, or an olive meant to stay in the pot long term.
• 112 x 92cm, 725 L, 80kg. Root run for a small feature tree in a courtyard or on a rooftop where in ground planting is not an option.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Glass-reinforced concrete, cast thin over a fibre matrix, which keeps a 112cm pot down to 80kg and still able to take a knock.

Outdoors. Every finish in this range is a Dulux Weathershield custom spray, carrying a 15 year guarantee against blistering, peeling and flaking. That covers the coating staying on the pot rather than the shade itself. Almost any custom colour can be sprayed to order for an extra $60.

Drainage. The egg has drainage holes. Keep them clear, raise the pot on feet, cover each hole with fibreglass flyscreen rather than fabric or geofabric, which clogs, then add 50mm of 10mm gravel before filling with a premium potting mix, never garden soil.

What to expect when it arrives

Pots ship empty, the only sensible way to move a 725 litre planter. There is no raw concrete option here, so every egg is made to order: allow 2 to 3 weeks.
